Sophy Purnell is an award-winning composer, vocalist and songwriter who specialises in film and television based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, UK. She’s known for her experimental and expressive use of her vocals in her scores which has led to her voice being recorded for a variety of dramas and features including: The Sea Beast (Netflix), Body Parts (Tribeca Film Festival 2022), Every Breath You Take, starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan, Intrusion (Netflix), The Tourist (HBO Max & BBC One) and upcoming drama The Confessions of Frannie Langton (ITV)
Sophy recently collaborated with composer, Chris Roe, writing additional music and recording her vocals for On The Edge with Alex Honnold (Nat Geo / Disney+) and Whale with Steve Backshall (Sky). Sophy’s music has also been featured on various television shows including: The Rehearsal (HBO), Chasing Ocean Giants (Discovery+), Secret Safari: Into The Wild (Channel 4), Pandemic: How To Prevent An Outbreak (Netflix), Coronavirus: The Survivors’ Stories (ITV), Hollyoaks (Channel 4), Race Across The World (BBC Two), Snow Cats And Me (BBC Two), The Apprentice (BBC One), Top Gear (BBC Two) and A Year To Save My Life: George McGavin and Melanoma (BBC Four)
Sophy recently won a Mark Award for ‘Best Use in a Documentary Film/Series’ for her track ‘Lowlands Fog Descends’ in Return To Dunblane with Lorraine Kelly (ITV). She was nominated at the Music & Sound Awards for ‘Best Use of Production Music' in a TV Programme’ 2021 and was recently nominated for ‘Best Use of Production Music in Television Factual’ and ‘Best Use of Production Music in a Sports Promo’ at the Production Music Awards in 2024
